Real Madrid look set to complete their U-turn on the future of Cristiano Ronaldo by offering him a contract extension that will keep him at the club until he is 35. 

Madrid president Florentino Perez started the season with the intention of cashing in on Real's all-time record goalscorer with Paris Saint-Germain ready to pay close to €100million (£80m) for his services.

But Ronaldo has broken the 30-goal barrier for the sixth straight season and Gareth Bale - the man Perez wants to replace the Portuguese star as Madrid's talisman - has again missed part of the season through injury.

There is unlikely to be any great change to Ronaldo's current £16.5m per year salary, rather Madrid have prioritised simply extending his stay at the club.

Arsenal are reportedly confident of signing Borussia Monchengladbach's sought-after midfielder Granit Xhaka. The 23-year-old Swiss star has been linked to a host of clubs in recent months, but Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is said to have stolen a march on his rivals.

Xhaka is regarded as one of the best young midfielders in Europe and is apparently a long-term target of the north London club. Wenger is in desperate need of a player to fill the defensive midfield role this summer and the Frenchman sees Xhaka as the perfect candidate for the job.

Liverpool and Chelsea have also been credited with an interest in the eye-catching player, butArsenal are leading the extensive queue for his signature, according to ESPN.

Arsenal have opened preliminary talks with Monchengladbach over a transfer, sources close to the situation have claimed. What's more, it is said Xhaka is keen on a move to Emirates Stadium, havingpreviously stated his desire to play in the Premier League.

However, the eventual transfer fee may transpire to be a sticking point, with the German club demanding a fee of £34m ($48.8m) for their prized asset and Arsenal are not willing to pay more than £30m.

Manchester United put back season ticket renewal date to fuel Mourinho speculation

Manchester United have put back the renewal date for season ticket holders amid the likelihood Jose Mourinho will take over as manager in the summer.

United have sent season ticket holders an email informing them the deadline for renewing is now June 1 instead of May 20, citing the club's possible participation in the FA Cup final.

However, the move has further aroused suspicion that the club is planning on a change of manager, after Louis van Gaal was omitted from the pre-season tour promotional videolast month.

The email states: "Having qualified for the FA Cup semi-final after a thrilling replay against West Ham United, and with the club aiming to progress to the FA Cup final, we have decided to move the season ticket renewal deadline back from Friday 20th May, to Wednesday 1st June in order to give supporters more time to pay."

Supporters have the option of an 'early bird' deadline offer, in which they would be rewarded with a 'free, exclusive, limited-edition club scarf'.
